Inspiration behind this weeks Stock Release
Inspiration usually comes quietly — the ornate curve of a banister rail might stay in the forefront of my mind for many years spotted in the background of an image sometime, somewhere!
I’ve always been drawn to vintage pieces that offer a simple form alongside contemporary elements. Lately I’ve been swaying towards more ornament pieces that are refined but never too fussy with details that are intentional rather than decorative.
For me, sourcing is always about finding vintage pieces that feel contemporary. Pieces that carry history but read fresh in a modern interior. A good example is a wrought iron console I found last year on eBay. It came from a small farm in Wales, originally a pastry table with a thick slate top worn smooth from decades of rolling dough for pastries. The iron base with architectural form gave it a presence, while the smooth slate top carried its history.
Offered as a console it felt sculptural and yet entirely current. It quickly became one of our most enquired-about pieces, and it shifted the way I look at wrought iron entirely with is often overall decorative and fussy. Since then, I’ve been looking for pieces with similar simple forms. Small iron tables, for example, can be traditional in design but feel modern through clean, considered lines and subtle details. The kind of objects that feel curated rather than created, with character that only time can give.
Theres a growing trend towards Neo-classical pieces, a twist on modern Spanish revival coming from the US alongside spirals and tassels. Textured glass and iron-work allow spaces to feel layered without cluttered. When sourcing, it’s this balance that I’m always looking for - I’ve rounded up some images below that have recently inspired me along with a small look at some of the items included in Fridays stock release - I’m very much looking forward to sharing them with you.
